Message from Our Chair

The Department of Ophthalmology is committed to providing care at both VCU Medical Center and the Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center. We maintain coverage in all traditional subspecialties including cornea, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatrics and strabismus, glaucoma, retina and neuro-ophthalmology. Other services include ophthalmic pathology, ocular genetics and optometric care with specialty contact lens fitting.

Our patients, colleagues and community physicians recognize us as the core of ophthalmic care for Richmond and Central Virginia. We are proud to be the destination for numerous conditions where treatment is not available elsewhere in the Central Virginia region and beyond.

The faculty and staff in our department are deeply dedicated to providing the highest quality care for our patients, and educating the next generation of medical students, residents and leaders in the field of ophthalmology.

William H. Benson, M.D.
